I finally got my trip to Amsterdam.
Thom and I wanted to take Erik to see some sights before he leaves right after Thanksgiving but because of our work schedules, unfortunately, we haven't been able to do anything! Last Monday Thom took the day off, Erik and I didn't have to work and we headed to the Netherlands.
There is so much to see in Amsterdam - stuff I want to see anyway! World class museums, pot smoking coffee shops, a REAL red-light district, the Anne Frank house, lovely canals bordered with the requisite colorful houses, flower market etc.
We narrowed it down to the Van Gogh Museum. I really want to see the Anne Frank House but T & E looked at me like I was nuts. It sucks to be outnumbered.
The Van Gogh Museum was fabulous! We all got the audio guides and wandered for two or three hours through the stages of the very short painting career and life of Vincent. I love museums like this... ones either devoted to a single artist or someone's small or medium sized collection (like the Peggy Guggenheim museum) because you really get a sense of either the artist or the collector. I guess I relate more to the artist or collector more than I do to the art itself.
Anywho - we were pooped and flopped ourselves in the cafe at the museum for a coffee, discussion, and, yes, we made fun of some of the tourists.
Afterwards... a walk to the flower market and back.
A note about the photos here and throughout my blog: I have received some very flattering comments about the fabulous pictures on my blog and I have to give credit where credit is due... my husband takes most of them when we are travelling. The pictures of our house, animals and other stuff he considers boring drivel are my feats of photography plus about 20% of the travel ones - I do get lucky sometime. We use a Nikon D60.
